As stated in KFOCI HANDBOOK Version 4.0     -    "As in 1947, directional signals and overdrive were NOT offered on 1948 Kaiser Specials either as standard equipment or options."
"Besides the Accessory Group, there were no factory installable items on this model unless the

Custom is correct...the quote is based on the K-F Parts and Accessories Bulletin announcing a directional kit as an option for 1949-50 models; these kits were not designed to fit the 47-48 Kaisers according to the same bulletin.

A number of companies offered an aftermarket kit that fit a variety of vehicles including 47-48 Kaisers.  They are not factory and would have significant point deductions for judging, but can be set up to work.

It is my understanding that if an item is added to a vehicle and it makes it SAFER ,there will be NO point deduction.......WHO cares about points if it makes both you and passengers safer.

Since it doesn't have turning signals have any of you added a turning flasher?and if so what manufacturer

I would't care about turning signals at all but where I live it is a state law to have front turn signals on vehicles manufactured after 1942 but if i'm going to add them to the front then i'll add them to the back as well

The problem you have with the Saftety Issue in Judging is that as far as i am aware there is no clearly defined list as to what would be considered no point deduction items.

AS I UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE, IF THE ITEM CAN BE REMOVED AND NOT EFFECT THE ORIGINALITY IT DOES NOT LOSE POINTS

But how do you remove incorrect turn signals for judging purposes?  While it is theoreticaly possible to take the turn signal wiring, bulb sockets, etc, off a 1947 or 1948 Frazer parts car and put it in a Kaiser, you would still have to deal with Frazer lenses (2 "dots" for the 2 bulbs) which would have to be changed front and back and a safe and easy way to remove the selection lever assembly from the steering column.  You would need color coded quick disconnects to stash the run to the lights in the dash area, a way to remove the flasher and socket if on the firewall and change the front and back parking light/brake light lenses back to single dot. 

Sounds like a bit of work to set up, get working and take apart.

the Frazer taillights have 2 bulbs and it makes blinkers a lot easier to install the non kf people will never know it is wrong. just saying

One option is to take the directional signal pieces from a 1947-48 Frazer parts car, and use the wiring diagram for the Frazer as found in the factory shop manual to install it.

It should be noted that established judging procedures should note incorrect but no point deduction IF the owner can show that it would have been required in their state during the model year of the car.  There is also an exemption if special mirrors are required for medical/driver license purposes.

Turn Signals:
Back in the days, you could buy an add on turn signal kit with either 4 wires or 7 wires. The 4 wire was 1)Power 2) Ground 3)Left, front & rear and 4)Right, front & rear. You had to install separate turn signal lamps for the front & back. Some cars had space in the taillight assembly for a separate turn signal socket & bulb.
Now the 7 wire was more deluxe. It flashed the rear brake light element. There was a 1)Power 2)Ground 3)Brake light switch 4)Left front 5) Left rear 6)Right front and 7)Right rear.
Certainly if you installed turn signals on a car that saw some street use that would be a safety addition. The turn signal unit clamped to the steering column could not be ruled as non-original because it is a safety item but a point could be taken off if the appearance of the unit was poor or the attachment was particularly unsightly.
However, if you installed separate lamps for the turn signals, that would be judged as non-KF. You can replace single filament parking light sockets in the front with dual filament sockets and run the rear turn signals through the brake lights in the back.
