Kaiser Powersteering 1953-1955
« on: July 14, 2009, 01:29:03 PM »
I'm in the process of restoring a 1954 Kaiser.  It has a Monroe power steering unit installed.  I'm pretty sure the hoses and fitting have been replaced over the years.  My problem is the hose fittings on the power ram strike the oil pan and the frame when I turn the steering wheel from stop to stop. Consequently breaking the fittings at the power ram location.  I have not figured out how to stop the ram travel or to find low profile fittings that will allow the ram to move freely.  Does anyone have a set-up that works and if you do can, send a digital photo close-up of the hose connections at the ram location?
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, John Peek KFOCI #9416

Here are a couple of pictures I took today.  It was hard to get a decent view, and it's pretty dirty under there--no show car!  Let me know if these help or if I can take a different angle.

I can't ever seem to get pictures to post right on here.  I've used several different photo sharing services, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Here you go, Logan. I had to right click the photos on flickr and copy their addresses from the properties box.

Logan,
Thanks so much, can you make a shot from the top, to check the routing of the hoses from the pump to the power ram?  Once again I appreciate the time and the extra effort.  John

John, give Ken Lindsey in Normal, IL a call.  I'm on the road and don't have access to the directory.  He's very knowledgeable on the powere steering units.  Real nice guy; you'll enjoy talking with him.  Regards, Mike
