New Moror Mounts
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:46:52 AM »
I assisted My 8 yr old today in replacing the 2 front motor mounts on our 52 HJ.  The previous owner purchased the mounts from John Parker many years ago and never installed them.  To raise the engine, we had to remove the radiator hoses.  We flushed the radiator and installed new hoses.  The only bad news out of it was we found the heater core has a small leak.  We removed the heater from the car and will drop core by radiator guy tomorrow.  Not sure if it is repairable.

My grandson is five and when he visits, first we play baseball, then we play with Kaisers. Just the way it ought to be.

Sorry Dave, I didn't see this post. The leaky heater core is a common problem on the J. Usually it's the joint where the pipe comes out of the core - they tend to crack there (the solder joint) and it's easy to repair. I've done it several times -

and after - right where pipe is notice the new puddle of solder.

Propane torch and acid core solder does the trick.

Yes Fid, your right on, that is where it is leaking.  Why there?  Too much vibration?

That is the most vulnerable spot. I always thought it cracked there because of the stress when someone wiggled the hose off. The hoses stick tight on there so if you have to pull/wobble/twist them off, it will crack on that joint.

Hi Larry,  I just remove the nuts from them, then raise the engine with a floor jack (under the pan using a block of wood as a "buffer").  You don't need to raise it much.  Just enough to clear the studs on the old mounts. Then remove the bolts that fasten the old mounts to the supports and remove them. I then put the new mounts on the supports and place the nuts/bolts on without tightening them as you'll likely have to move/adjust them a bit as you lower the engine back down. When the engine is back down in place, then tighten all of the nuts/bolts  in place.  Pretty straight forward. I recently installed a set on my '51 Kaiser - very easy.  I did  not remove the hoses as Dave mentioned but that might not be a bad idea. You may want to raise the engine gently and examine the hoses as you do so.  If they are stretching then disconnect them but if  they're not just leave 'em.

Good luck

There isn't one as that part is no longer available.  Rudy Phillips sells them if you have a core to send him.

Yes, they will revulcanize your mount. It's a service they offer and probably the same company Rudy uses.

Great to search and find what you need in an older thread as I’m still collecting pieces parts:-)
The Good: The NAPA part number for the front mounts 602-1020 is still a good #

The Bad: my Napa was out:-/

The Helpful: cross referenced at the shop(CarQuest/Advance)...Anchor #2040 and only $1.00 more from last time posted...a little dusty but now they have a home👊
