KF 30 Tool
« on: November 28, 2015, 11:39:17 AM »
Anyone out there own or have the dimensions to KF tool 30? It is like a double ended 7/8 wrench that fits between the lifters and holds them. I'm trying to adjust the valves on my 47 Kaiser and unfortunately it has the early locknuts. This makes it nearly impossible to do the adjustment properly. Getting three wrenches in there and seeing what you're doing is an exercise in frustration. I would be willing to buy the tool or make one if someone has the tool or a diagram to make one.

Thanks, Rob

KF 30 in the Miller tool catalog is called a valve tappet holder.  It is a small double ended simple affair that fits between two tappets and locks them in place.  The catalog also suggests long handled tappet wrenches which makes reaching into the tappet area easier and you would need a 7/8, 3/4 and 9/16.   They are 14 inches long and might be easier to find than the valve tappet holder.

I already have the tappet wrenches. The tool makes a 7/8 wrench a moot point. Where the splash guards are makes it impossible to get three wrenches in there. Trying to hold the adjuster and the tappet while turning the locknut is damn near impossible.

You can make a tool to do the job......   Bend a piece of flat stock in an " L " shape and file it so it fits snugly between
the lock nuts on the tappets.   I've had one I made years ago and still use it for this purpose.   I also always take
the manifold off when I cold set the valves - makes it much easier.

I went up to the shop and checked the width on the tool - it's 1"...........

Thanks, I hadn't thought of just making it so it would fit between the lifters, not necessarily around the sides of them.
