6 volt flashers

Just a heads up about 6 volt flashers ,, buy up some extra nos ones if you can find them the replacement ones are electronic and do not work right just returned some to napa . Have not tried one of these taiwan flashers in any of KF"s but just installed one on a 54 Aero and yes the lights blink right and left but these things are silent and something with the way they are made the indicator on the dash does not light up .  I much prefer having some indication the signals are working, i had one old stock flasher left i installed so all is good on the willys now . New updated parts are not always better.

Yes, the ones you get at NAPA are really no good. You need  a 6 volt Heavy Duty Flasher.  Rudy Phillips used to sell them.  They make all the difference.

 I used 6V LED lights in the upper tail light lights on my 54, they are really sharp looking, these naturally are single units and come in different colors, can be found inexpensively on e bay.

I don't understand the bad rap on 6 volt flashers from Napa .
I purchased a conventional heavy duty 6 volt flasher from the local Napa store last fall and it works fine. Seems to be slightly larger in diameter but does what it is supposed to do

The key is "Heavy Duty."  If it's Heavy Duty it should be fine.  I was refering to the standard NAPA units.  I don't have that part number right off hand but I never had good luck with anything other than the heavy duty units.

Thanks Fid. I agree we should only use the heavy duty flashers.
As for the led bulbs, I purchased amber led's hoping to use them for he front turn signal lights on my '54 Manhattan but can't get them o work. In researching why I read that they require a ballast or some thing that I don't understand.

Most but not all LED bulbs are polarity sensitive . The majority being for negative ground. Positive ground ones are available but harder to find as are polarity insensitive ones. LED bulbs sometimes don't work  with old style flashers because they don't enough amperage to trip the flasher. A 12 volt LED bulb usually won't light at all on 6 volts.
