membership number

Does anyone know what happens to your membership number after you leave the club is it reused and given to someone else and is it possible to get it back ? Reason i ask is i was #3010 back in the mid seventies and rejoined in 2007 so about 30 or so years passed by and a bit too quick i might add.When i rejoined i was given #9652.

I was out of the club for a while.  When I renewed, I was issued a new number. I contacted the club secretary and asked if I could have my original back. I was told that as long as the club had a record of it (and they did) I could have my original one back. It was reissued to me so  yes, I got my original number back.

The club does not reuse membership numbers (give old numbers to new members) but will reissue them to folks whose memberships have lapsed. For those who have been away for more than five years, we usually issue a new number unless the member notes their original number on their membership application. Several years ago the club upgraded their membership software (we went from index cards to a computer) and all lapsed memberships were not carried forward due to the sheer volume of expired memberships.

So, for those who were at one time members, if you rejoin and want to use your old number you can, just make sure you let the membership secretary know you'd like to do so. As Fid mentioned, it can be done!

Some people have taken over a deceased spouse or parents number. That is the only way I've ever seen a number re-issued to someone other than the original owner.

Once upon a time, I had nothing to do one weekend and decided to find out who was originally assigned membership numbers. I went through every directory I had going back to before I was a member and compiled an XL spreadsheet. Many of the old numbers are there and I can send a copy to the club if needed. That is, if I can remember where I stored it.

Does that explain why there are below #13 members in the new member list when Larry stated in the quarterly that his parents were the last surviving founding members?

Way back when, the 13 original charter members took numbers 1 through 13 for themselves. Any new members after that started with 101. Numbers 14-100 were never used.
