Front Brakes

Guys, I was part of the -Rear Brakes- discussion since I'm re-assembling them following thorough clean-up / inspection  and cylinders overhaul (one was leaking and left brake got stuck).

Funny enough, I never dis-assembled the front ones cause the drums look new and the previous owner told me they were redone.
How much of a job is it ? Is a puller required just like the rear ones ? any tips ?  ???

No  puller required on the front brakes. Much easier than the rear. Pry the dust cup off, remove the cotter pin, remove the nut and pull it off.

Do yourself a favor and back off the adjustments before pulling the drums it will make your life easier and before you remove the shoes take some digital pictures of the way they are installed. I found the digital camera to be a friend with most removal-replacement projects.

OK so only the drums will come off after removing the nut, nothing else from the axle ?

Once you remove the nut, pull the drum towards you slightly and the outer wheel bearing will begin to slide off the spindle along with the retainer washer. Remove them then continue to pull the drum off the spindle. The drum and hub are one unit.

Might want to re pack those bearings while your in there....

  A little tip on packing wheel brngs. People sometimes wash them in an oily solvent and the grease wont stick to them. I always finished up by washing them in gas of laquer thinner then blow them dry before packing. CAUTION do not let them spin while blowing. If you wipe grease over the brng and it dont stick you havent got them clean enough.
