A late model Kaiser tank is quite different than a Henry J tank.  I know of no substitute but I've never had to look for one either.  I'd be interested in knowing if someone has an answer.

A couple of these have the right physical configuration.Does anyone have the measurements of an actual HJ tank?

In looking up the dealer locations for the tank manufacturer at least in CA most are street rod shops and I am sure that street rodders all have a problem getting the correct fit on a gas tank so that is a good option if you are not needing authenticity.  Probably one of their tanks would be a good fit and you could weld the kind of brackets and inlet onto the the tank where needed.  There are many Henry J parts cars out there and an ad in the KFOCI newsletter might locate a tank for you.

Don't know what tank would cross-fit, but I always recommend Spectra-Premium gas tanks or radiators. In my experience (40 or so years in the car parts business), they make the best. Some are Canadian, some are made in USA. They have a website and may be able to match based on your measurements, they may even be open to manufacturing new tanks.

I thought the proper replacement was a beer keg mounted sideways on the front bumper!

Since my car was not stock and since a previous owner had cut all the floor out, I used an early Mustang style drop in tank from Tanks Inc. I got it 1st thing so I could build the floor around it and once the floor was done, I had an access hole in the back for getting though to do other things. I have a no trunk car. Here is a pic from the inside.

Nice work Gray Ghost!   That configuration would not work on an original car because the spare tire well would get in the way but if you're customizing it, that's a good answer.  Likely a larger tank too. The original HJ tank only holds 13 gallons so if you've got a big V8 in it, that might be inadequate.  Are you planning on having the license plate conceal the cap and fold down to access it as a lot of cars had back in the day?
