1951 Kaiser Special 2 door Traveler
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:46:05 PM »
I was contacted by a non-member wishing to sell grandpa's 51K Special Traveler. It needs a fair amount of work but since it is a very rare two door Traveler, it might be worth the effort.

The car is located in southern Indiana, near Indy. Check out the pix.

Owner is looking at offers.

Wow. I didn't know they even made a 2 door Traveler.

It was a 1 year car, about 900 Special and 400 Deluxe made, I have had one of each. Unsold ones may have been sold as 52s. This car seems to be missing the spare tire well and cover, bumper overriders and hood ornament. Need an interior shot to see how it looks.

Thanks. It was late and I did not want to pull my references out to check.  That seems like a lot for a 2 door model, about 1300 2 door Travelers?  This is a model which would seem better suited as a four door because of it's utility focus.  Perhaps there was a price advantage over the two door and the ability to get at your stuff from the back was a replacement for the extra doors?

I hope and believe yellow was not the original color, I have never seen a yellow KF either.

The photo I saw was small and I thought I was seeing the ground, the cover is there.

Well there were some factory yellow ones. The fact that the dash and all interior on this one is painted yellow indicates it likely was Pasadena Yellow (a factory KF color in '51).  Lowell Johnson of Wisconsin owned a beautiful yellow '51 Traveler for many years. I saw it at several meets, it was on the KFOC Kalendar in the early 2000s.  The '51 Kaiser Golden Dragon was called such because of its Pasadena yellow color. There are others that are yellow, I've seen more than a few.

Driver's side looks kind of rough to me but it is a smaller photo. Looks like a flat type dent in the drivers door and maybe into the body and not sure what that is painted or rusted on the drivers rear.

Arena Yellow?  Golden Dragons are a nice yellow, perhaps this has been faded.   Just my opinion but I might change the color to a dark blue, red maybe.

Someone needs to call the grandson.  He may not want much.  I don't think any one here has called yet.
