SPAM CONTROL SUGGESTIONS
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:45:29 AM »
My suggestion:
Since the Officers, et al, are all volunteers, why not have 2 or 3 volunteers who have the responsibility to review those that are posting for the first time.
The system should be modified so that there is a 48 hour delay from the entry of the posting  to its entry into the Forum.
In that time, one of the 3 volunteers can review and determine that it is "legit".  If so, pass it on; if not tag it as spam.
I will throw my name into the hat as one of those reviewers.
Any other takers??
Of course, there needs to be a buy in, and some effort, buy the Officers and Web Manager.
Alternatives???

Terry,  I might suggest we request the Webmaster to upgrade the current version of the software we are using.  Then ask him to recommend the best way to control these SPAMMERS within the capabilities of the software.  As we are all volunteers we need to work within the capabilities available.  Just my thoughts.

Right on Jim. I looked into the software but my brain soon turned to a 73 year old glob. I might could figure it out but it's a chore best left to the young...

Check out the professioncarsociety.org web page  they have a wait period and a 30 day wait period for new members to sell, just a suggestion to collect info on ways to curb spam.

I think that a "Wait Period"  will become necessary to discourge the spammers.  They ruined our website once completely loading it up with spam.  Let's do it!
