Coil Springs?
« on: March 07, 2017, 11:11:25 AM »
Where would I go for front Coil Springs on my Darrin??

I had St. Louis Spring (recommended by this site) do my leaf springs last year when I drove to the Springfield Nationals.  I brought one of them with me for a sample.   They did a great job and I had them in less than 4 hours and a great price.   It's just that they don't do Coil Springs.

It has taken me awhile to talk with these people.  Since there are no specs for Darrin (this is from everyone I talked with), these would be custom.

I first went to Shocks2springs.   I would have to send one of my springs and they would custom make a set for $450 - 550.   Henry J springs are $499 a pair.

Then I called Eaton Detroit spring.  They price  a custom spring between $850 - 900.   Henry J springs are $249 a pair

Eaton Sent me to Betts Spring, they couldn't do it but they sent me to Ancar Spring Int.   THey don't do anything that thick.

So it looks like I will be going with Shocks2Springs, when I am ready.   I am still working on the body and have not gotten to the frame and all its components.   However, I have been getting parts.

I doubt that you would want to go to the trouble to make springs this way, but it will be interesting reading for you. Dig out the part relating to springs

Ok, I just got the coil springs for my Darrin from Deaver Suspension @ 902 E. 2nd Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701.  Talk with Scott Born 714-542-3703.

I paid $325 for the springs plus the $25.19 shipping from where they make them.   Very reasonable from some of the other places I talked with.    Scott took one of my Darrin springs and took all the measurements then sent those measurement off to be made, it took about 6 weeks.

Here is something about them: Originated in 1892, Deaver Spring, Inc. (formerly known as Deaver Spring Manufacturing Company) specializes in suspension work on cars, trucks, 4×4’s and Recreational Vehicles, which is to say anything with a suspension.

What is the problem with the original springs?
I have never had to replace the front or rear springs on any of my cars.
All 6 of them. I have disassembled the rear springs cleaned them painted them and reassembled them using new rubbers if necessary.

Nothing except I wanted  new springs.   I believe that my Darrin had been raced as it was quite beat up after taking off eight metal plates and all the Bondo it had on it.    The car had over 87K with the speedometer disconnected when I got it.  Everything was worn out around the body.   T he drive train was rebuilt, thankfully.

Where did you get your new rubber cushions for your coils??
