Darrin at Hershey last week
« on: October 15, 2018, 05:06:39 PM »
There was a Darrin for sale at the AACA swap meet in Hershey PA last week. Claimed to have a Supercharger, although the hood was closed,  and was equipped with a "factory" hardtop. Asking price "only" $225k.

What color was it.   The only one I know of is the one that was at Prescott, AZ during last years nationals.  It was Yellow with a hardtop and a supercharger!!

Looks like we have a match with the AZ car. I took a couple photos of it while I was at Hershey.

That car was very well done, whatever was paid for that car the new owner got a deal.  I heard the old owner passed away later that year (Fall 2017), at least he was able to enjoy it for awhile.   Do you know what it went for???

It looks like the same car but the hood wasn't open so I can not say what the engine looked like. I don't know if it sold, I would assume not.

Both cars seem to have different non original wheel covers but it still could be the same car.

This was a Darrin, with no mention of Kaiser anywhere.   I was told the owner, who owned it for over 20 years before the restoration, had a lot of paper work about this being done by Dutch Darrin after he left Kaiser and that it was Dutch who didn't want anything Kaiser on the car.  I believe, Darrin did the hardtop as well.   The horn is covered over to hid the "K" and the hubcaps are different, sans Medallions.   According to the owner, Darrin had 35 "Darrin" air boxes made for the supercharger.  You can see it in one of my pictures of the engine compartment.

I was told he worked with Terry T. for the accuracy, Terry would have to interject something here if that is true.

Simple question, what is the vin and body number? Late built Kaiser Darrins had white interiors. Is the vin after number 435?

This Darrin is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. I can’t imagine how much was spent on this car. Everything in or on this car was first class. I saw it in Prescott and talked to the owner. He told me he just wrote the check which is fine he did not have the talent but loved the car and was very knowledgeable about the car.
I took a zillion pictures of the car only to discover that I didn’t have a media card in my camera. By the time I found out he was gone. Even the hard top was absolutely perfect it even had built in sun  visors. If I didn’t love to do the restoration work I would buy that car. I just like doing the work it is fun for me.

It was a high number car, 400+ vin number if I remember correctly, definitely not higher than 435.

Hello...

I don't usually watch this forum and just now see this thread.

My shop Dan Green Restorations in Salt Lake City Utah restored this car for the late owner.
It was a "no expense spared" restoration.  The late owner wanted the absolute best and thats what we did.

Never thought we'd restore another Darrin but...go figure...we're currently doing a red car from SoCal.

Dan,

You must be highly commended, it was the best Darrin restoration I've seen as Lee said.   Top quality work!!!   Did it sell back then?? If so, how much?

I'm just finishing a 5 1/2 year restoration on my Darrin, chronicled in this forum.

Is the Red car from the high dessert, LA County or ??? - just curious.

Darrins have a following and we would just like to know if you could share.
