1949 Hood Ornament
« on: February 15, 2025, 01:46:36 PM »
Fellow Members,

I recently purchased a 1949 Kaiser with the fabulous rocket and tall Lucite crest hood ornament.  The Lucite is cracked across at the bottom, making the entire front of the hood ornament unstable.  Before taking it off, I thought I would ask if anyone knows exactly how it is put together or perhaps send a photo.  Seems hard to believe that the entire Kaiser rocket would be suspended by a piece of Lucite.  May I glue the plastic together inside the bottom chrome portion of the ornament?  Would love it if someone out there has the entire Lucite piece.  Any help is appreciate.  Thanks, Rex

Yes, you can try to glue to the two lucite pieces together. There are no reproduction sails available and the NOS supply dried up years ago when I bought the last one a KF club parts vendor had for sale. It's been a while since an intact sail appeared on ebay but they do from time to time.

Thanks for the help.  It is glued back together and looks good.
