51 Henry J with no trunk interior question
« on: May 02, 2016, 06:21:22 AM »
I'm working on a 51 with no trunk. I noticed that before I removed the old headliner, that it stops just below the rear window and just hanging. Can anyone tell how the rear compartment was finished off ? Is there a panel or something missing? Anyone have any pictures of how it was done. you help is appricated.

They have a bead, like a piece of the windlace/wire-on along the bottom edge of the headliner where it hangs down in back.  I can't find a good picture and right now my car is still in storage. You can kind of see it in the attached picture - zoom in on it and you may get the idea.

Fid. Thanks, I can now see how the headliner stops. Is there a panel or something that covers the body from the end of the liner down to the rear of the car? Or is the metal body exposed where the tag bracket and light are? Thanks

The car in the picture has a trunk lid and it's got door board on it.

There's a brown cardboard panel below the rear window.  Picture enclosed:

Looks like it's part number "Panel, Center (used less deck lid) 210986" in the '51 Henry J parts book.

Thanks, at least I now understand how it was done. I don't expect that I would find one so hopefully I can make one.

This is my 53 Corsair. The guy that I purchased it from said that it had been sitting 40 years. The fabric goes all the way to the bottom. I don't know if it is correct or not.

I just looked in the Henry J parts book.  Quadromaniac, I would say yours is original and upon further review, it appears Vagabond Russ' is also original. My memory is not what it was. There is a part number listed in section 30.611 of the '51 Henry J parts book which calls out "Panel, Center (used less deck lid) 210986"  and the '52-'53 supplement section also lists "Panel, Center Dinosaur grained cardboard (used less deck lid) 211544" and "Panel, Center Ribbed grain cardboard (used less deck lid)  211545."  Sounds like Quadromaniac's is the former and the additional two listed in the supplement are listed for K533 only.

What is this bracket in the top left corner used for? I have one in my Allstate also, but it was laying in the trunk when I bought it.

The bracket seems to support the top of the spare tire.  Also uses a silver rod thru the wheel hole.

The bracket is used for your bumper jack for storage.

That's what I always believed it to be.
I couldn't find any definite info on it in the owner's manual, parts book or shop manual but that's what I always used it for.
