Brake Shoes: The shoe number is 51 and used on all Henry J’s. Henry Js originally came with the forrward (or primary) shoe covered with a chamfered 10†x 2†lining, while the trailing (or secondary) shoe was covered with a 7 7/8†x 1 ¾†lining, also with chamfered ends. The reasoning behind this is that in stopping, the weight transfers forward and the primary shoe does more work. A lot of the relined shoes have the full shoe surface covered on all shoes. If your set has the size difference, place the lesser lined shoe to the rear.
