Don't let the parts counter guy talk you into buying a jeep clutch. It wont fit. There is a local brake and clutch rebuild shop that I have used. Maybe an option where you are?

Alan, I'm curious as to what problems you may have had.  I bought the whole clutch for my green J back in '07 at Northstar Willys (now defunct) and it was correct.  The other one I bought at Walcks is the one I installed in Edgar Kaiser's J and it was correct.  Maybe there are others that aren't and the Jeep guys don't know the difference?

The splines on the disc were not the same. The guy insisted that it would work so I ordered it. Didn't fit.

I recall asking for a HJ clutch. The counter guy (60 years old in 1999) said "same as willis". I said "I don't think so". He said something that made me feel stupid and uncertain of what I knew even though I had intimate knowledge of HJ clutches having owned one since 1977. So I ordered it. Returned it the same day it arrived. Had the original one rebuilt. Maybe there are many Willys variations when it comes to clutch disks... all I know id this one would not fit. Too few splines? Center shaft opening too small?

Hmmm, I never had any problems.  The splines all lined right up with the tranny shaft.  Been driving one of the cars for 10 years and the other for 2 so I'm guessing they were OK!
I also replaced just the disc in my blue J in 2011 but now that I think about it, that one was labeled and listed as "Henry J" but the other two I got from Jeep vendors.

Kaiser Willys Auto Supply, LLC. Has a kit listed for a 41-71 Jeep & Willys with the 134 4cyl and 161 6cyl with 8 1/2" clutch. It includes the pressure plate, clutch & throwout bearing with sleeve, for $159.00 with free shipping, no core charge. They say it fits a HJ as long as it's a 8 1/2 clutch.
