Power steering with the 161 cu in L-head engine
« on: April 10, 2018, 12:09:15 AM »
Has anyone experience with attaching power steering on the 161 cubic inch L-head used on various Willys models (including Aero Willys automobiles)?  Please contact kaiserfrazerlibrary@yahoo.com or post on this site.  Thank you

Power steering or brakes were not listed as options for Aeros in the 1954 Aero data book.  Perhaps they were an option on later station wagons or pickups that used the 161.

I know that power steering was not an option or otherwise available on the Willys products using the L-6 161 engine when they were new vehicles.  There is a need here in WA to get info on wether or not it can be added to a Henry J today & if anyone has done it to advise on installation (hard or easy) and what to use for the conversion.

Responses received indicate the problem that seemed to require installation of PS reflects not a need for the assist but replacement of the radial tires with the older bias ply types.  That will be done when tires need to be changed out.
