Wanted : Hydra Matic side inspection plate cover gasket
« on: June 22, 2018, 09:00:16 AM »
In need of an inspection plate cover gasket for a 1954 model with automatic transmission. Not the pan gasket. Located on the driver side. Sorry ,don't have the part number. Thanks for any help.
Not the floorboard inspection cover but the drivers side cover on the transmission. Its approximately 7 inches by 10 inches.

There is no such thing as a 1954 shop manual supplement for the Kaiser.  Kaiser-Willys Sales Corporation put out a series of service bulletins that covered significant differences between 1954-55 and 1953 model year cars; you should have the 1951 Kaiser and Frazer Shop Manual and the 1952-53 Kaiser Supplement to that book in addition to the service bulletins.

KFOCI Club Members got the collection of the 1954-55 Service Bulletins on KFOCI HANDBOOK Versiopn 5.0 when it was released in 2013.  Members joining the club since then got a copy of the CD  with their New Member Information.  You will find its link on page 3 of the Table of Contents file on the CD.

If you have the inspection plate it should be pretty easy to make your own gasket out of either cardboard or cork gasket material that you can get from your local auto parts store.  The hydramatic drive inspection plate is on the passenger side of my 1951 Kaiser if you mean the plate over the dip stick.  There are a couple of transmission shops that specialize in old Hydramatics and advertise in Hemmings

Not sure but you may be thinking of the trans  inspection cover on floorboard. I need the gasket for the inspection cover located directly on the driver side of the transmission. It's approximately 7" x 10" inches.

Master cylinder cover on driver's side? Never seen a gasket on either side but easy to make if so inclined.

The gasket you're looking for is typically only available as part of a rebuild kit. Aside from the front pump and rear shaft seals, as well as the torus cover to flywheel and drain pan gaskets, I've not seen the others available individually in some time. I've had the very same cover off my car's transmission and it is easy to trace and cut using commonly available gasket material. I used an old-fashioned hand held hole punch to create the bolt holes.

For the guessers chiming in earlier, the cover in question is similar to the one pictured in this eBay listing - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rebuilt-Oldsmobile-Hydramatic-transmission-1954-1956/223006810712?hash=item33ec3de258:g:QpwAAOSwstxVEHBF

Here is a link to my source for Hydra Matic parts and gaskets. Dave Edwards at http://www.autotran.us/HMBAdj1.html. He has supplied me with individual gaskets and complete sets. He has been in business for years, and he is reliable.
