1955 brake master cylinder

Have a 1955 Willy’s Custom 4dr, hurricane 6cyl, the top cap on the brake master cylinder has an “ accessory remote fill option port” can anyone tell me what this is for?

Because some master cylinders are mounted on the frame of the car and under the floor mats or carpeting they were very difficult to service without putting the car on a hoist and being able to service it from underneath.  The remote fillers were often mounted on the firewall and made refilling the master cylinders much easier.  They are a desirable accessory to have.

Thanks, ours is mounted on the frame, where the hose runs from the reseviour (under the hood ) down to the master cylinder, quite a pain, trying to restore this car but it’s gettin to be quite the project.

I once lost my brakes and ran into the back of one of my other cars, damaging the grill on my 52 Aero.  After that experience I installed a remote reservoir that I took off on old Jaguar that was sitting next to a Willys in a wrecking yard.  I made the mounts and installed in existing holes that were on the drivers side fender well, tapped the existing metal M/C cap and plumbed the unit with aluminum tubing.
