1954 / 55 Willys L-226 Rear Engine Mount K-734969
« on: January 27, 2022, 05:02:12 PM »
This might help.  When doing a clutch on my '55 Willys Custom the mechanic said my transmission mount (Rear Engine Mount) was in poor condition, but usable.  Not having a replacement, we reused the old one.  I started searching knowing what it looked like.  An Ebay ad for a 1955 Kaiser Part # 207407 looked the same. Ordered one.  The item arrived and a close look moulded into the rubber was the number 734969.  Now, it's twenty below here in Maine so I'm not installing right now, but I'm real sure it will fit.  I don't have the original Kaiser listing, but my 1954-55 Willys Parts Supplement shows in Group 10-23 Part # K-734969, Insulator, engine support, rear assembly (Standard).  I'm just assuming the K prefix shows Kaiser origin.  This part is frequently in need of replacement and several listings show it available.  One listing also says this fits a 2wd pickup with L-226. I don't have the listing for Hydramatic models as it doesn't show in my book. If you have a Kaiser or Willys car with L-226 Std. or OD. I think this part can help.

You are correct on the part numbers.   In the beginning Kaiser-Frazer had two sets of inventory; one with parts and accessories for sale to dealers and distributors (or the public, if you stopped in at the Courtesy Garage on the plant grounds) the other reserved for the production line.  Various items were ordered from vendors with the production line inventory number on it...numbers for the line stock began with a 3 or a 7.  Sometimes a "K" was added to the part number to show it came out of the KF stock.

In 1955 the Kaiser-Frazer parts inventory was transferred to Willys Motors as many of the K-F parts were being put into service on various Willys vehicles; brake shoes for the DJ-series Dispatcher Jeeps (which included the USPS little jeeps) were same as on the Henry J for example.  That's why it is worthwhile to get the PARTS PRICE LIST books from 1954, the joint Willys-KF parts price list in 1955 (Green cover) the 1957 and the 1961 Kaiser-Frazer-Henry J books for cross referencing.  Parts Price List books were used to pass on part number changes to dealers and distributors and the last books showed the move from a KF number to a Willys Motors inventory part number.

I found the Willys Part Number for Hydra-Matic cars with the L-226 Engine.  From "Hydra-Matic Drive Parts List, Willys 1953-54-55 Passenger Cars", Group 10-23 Engine Mounting (Page 4), # 803333, Insulator, Engine Mounting, Rear Assembly for Models 6-226 and 6-226A, One Required.  I don't have the Kaiser Number but likely is same part for L-226 applications.  A quick search did not find any availability yet and don't know what the part looks like.

80333 is the same trans mount used on earlier Aeros with 161 and standard trans.
If it helps, I got a NORS part, interchange number 2201. Got it from Northwestern Auto Supply, which I understand is recently defunct, but looks like most parts houses carry an A2201

WOW!! Now that's what this forum is all about.  We have sources for a very commonly needed part in today's world and at a reasonable price.  I just searched Ebay for A2201 Mount and found it available very easily. Thanks, jneely and KaiserFrazerLibrary.

glennstin, did you ever confirm fitment on your car? I was trying to help a friend, and she got an A2201 trans mount, but doesn't fit her 55 Custom. Wondering if the 207407 Kaiser number given is a confirmed fit. Looks like they are available through Willow Run http://kfparts.com/store/product/transmission-mount-1951-1955-kaiser-w-standard-transmission/

See photo, top is 2201, bottom is original takeout

UH-OH!!!!  My '55 Custom is still in winter storage.  Sorry 'bout that.  I'll see what's what with mine.  Thank you so much for the information.

I just got my '55 Willys Custom out of storage, into repair shop, installed new rear transmission mount with no problem, road tested and all is well.  Now we  have rebuilt whole clutch assembly and transmission mount.  Also did a set of radial tires to be ready for summer touring in both these Willys products.
