Side View Mirror
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:50:03 PM »
I need a trim ring, or whatever you might call it, that holds the glass in place in the driver's side mirror.  I was driving and the glass fell out--luckily I had the vent window open, so I caught it.  These two pieces came out

Here is the empty housing

Here is the housing with the glass back in it

You can see that there is nothing to hold the glass in.  That is the piece I lost and the one I need.  Let me know if anyone has one, or knows where to get one.  Thanks.

It looks like a snap rig is missing, maybe you could place a small amount of body putty (dum-dum) around the outer edge to hold the glass and gasket in place, until you get the right part.

That's worth trying.  Of course, I wouldn't want the mirror to fall out again and break this time.  Maybe someone will have that ring.

When I took a side mirror to an auto glass place they used a type of putty to hold the new mirror

Take it to any auto glass shop and they will glue it in for you.  I just noticed that the glass is missing from my '40 Ford coupe.  A glass shop will cut a new mirror and glue it back in for me.  They have all of the equipment to cut and grind the glass to the correct diameter.
