Handbrake cable ID
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:44:19 PM »
I have the rear handbrake cable from something that I got in a lot of Kaiser dealer's stuff decades ago, but haven't been able to figure out what it's from. It looks similar to some early series, but the length doesn't seem right. It is 157" long and the sleeves are 25". I enclose pix. Is NOS and I'd like to pass it on to someone who can use it, but I guess ID comes first.

They did seem to have a variety of rear brake cables; they're all different on my Kaisers and Frazers....we need one for the '51 Frazer convertible but I'll have to try and go back to my notes two or three years ago and see what I wrote down.

Some forensic techniques yielded  "EIS  -578 on one end of the cable, as close as I can tell. Does this ring any bells anywhere?

I have an old CarQuest brake catalog but EIS 578 isn't listed. Need someone with an old EIS catalog to check it out.  Cannot find one online except for purchase and then it may or may not contain that number. Most brake cable #s I've seen contain 4 digits.

Well, I can tell you that it's not a 2578, 3578 or a 5578 cable as all are front units and yours is definitely a rear cable. I couldn't find anything on a 1578 or 4578 cable.

I need the rear brake cable for my 54 Kaiser.  Anyone know the EIS number or another crossover?

I also need a set of rear vent window rubbers but that's another post (thus far unanswered!!!). :'(

A couple years ago I acquired a brake cable or two from this guy on ebay.  He indicated he had over 4000 cables from 1920s-70s.  At the time he had a phone number for inquiries as 704-213-6846.

I've purchased a number of brake cables from this gentleman. Good guy, actually went over to his place to pick them up, and was amazed at his inventory.

I've checked with him...he sold all the KF ones he had to Chris Leucht our webmaster.  Chris didn't get any of the rear 51-55 Kaisers  :'(
