1951 Frazer hood ornaments
« on: March 16, 2015, 01:30:36 PM »
Did you know that the '51 Frazer originally came out with a clear plastic nose piece on the hood ornament much like those used on the 1951 Kaiser?  Owners and mechanics used the hood ornament as a handy handle for closing the hood and of course the plastic nose pieces snapped right off.  The solution was to make the nose pieces out of chrome plated steel and that eliminated the problem.  Cars with the original plastic nose pieces are rarely seen today as they came only on the earliest cars. Only one hood ornament nose piece was listed in the 1951 Frazer parts book as part number 207272 and the description did not say metal or plastic.  Perhaps that plastic nose piece may be the hardest part to find for a 1951 Frazer?

Gordie,
There was one listed on ebay a few weeks ago. The seller was from Alaska. It was rather poor condition but it did have a plastic tip. It did not sell.

Thanks, I have a pretty good used one that I picked up a few years ago but am looking for a better tip as mine did not survive in perfect condition.  I have a minor collection of aftermarket and original hood ornaments.  There were quite a few offered during the early years when KF did not use them on the cars.

Last fall, someone listed a clear nose for the Frazer ornament as well as one for a 53-54 HJ on the AACA site. Needless to say, I bought both.

I have seen the metal ones snap off too.
