WTB: 54 Manhattan shift lever
« on: October 29, 2016, 11:29:32 AM »
Broke my shift shift lever again, thru the bolt hole  last night.  Had brazed it when it broke before, not much left to work with.  Would like to find a good/solid one for 54 Manhattan, 3spd/std., hopefully with good chrome/ball/knob on it.

PM me with $, picture, if you have one.

Would appreciate all help on this.

Bob, I have one but I believe it is for the Hydramatic cars (see picture attached).  It is NOS; price is $65 (chroming could easily cost that).

Also have 2 used shift knobs in very nice condition.  1 has been lightly sanded and painted with epoxy primer and epoxy black paint to help prevent cracking.  Neither show any evidence of cracking.  They are $35 each.

Above plus shipping.  Anyone is welcome to PM me to purchase if Bob doesn't want.

Thanks, Mike

Does anyone know if the 3 speed and hydramatic shift levers are different?  They DO have different numbers in the parts lists so that would make me think they are not interchangeable.  This is the only one I've ever had and no experience between the 2 transmission types.

Can anyone confirm the lever in the photo is for the hydramatic cars?

Anyone know if the knobs are different?

Thanks for any assistance...Mike

Mike,
I exchanged the levers on my '54 from a hydromatic to a three speed. I did discover a difference in the shaft from the lever to the gear selector at the bottom of the steering column. (My shaft is broken where it attaches to the lever). Perhaps the part numbers are different because they came pre assembled with the lever already attached to the control shaft?
