removing pilot brgs
« on: December 19, 2016, 03:23:31 PM »
Just saw a neat trick I hadn't seen before.   When removing old pilot brgs, we'd pack the hole with grease, then hammer in a tight shaft (old input, alignment tool, etc.) to "hydraulic" out the bushing or bearing.

This deal was to tear up paper, then soak paper in water, any paper (towel, sheet, news, etc)...then pack the wet paper in hole and hit on the paper with the tight shaft.  Keep adding wet paper as bearing comes out.  Same principle as the grease, but less mess...

Thought it worth passing along...

Good tip Bob. I have used the grease method a few times. I also have run a tap into the bushing and screwed a bolt into it to push it out.
