My bad !  :-[

I wrongly installed the rear brakes return springs !
They were attached to the nearest hole on the shoe, keeping them loose, found them at the bottom of the drums as I disassembled the brakes.

Re-installed everything the proper way and all is fine now.

Thanks for sharing your tips and advices.

Yeah, the shoes are new.
It could be the source of the intermittent (explained by a some loose in the hardware, I guess) but quite loud rubbing/grinding noise.

How much did you have to grind off the new shoes ?
How did you do it ?

Guys, I need a tip from experienced folks again...  :'(

I did my brakes, replaced everything except the springs which looked ok.
I adjusted the brakes per the Shop Manual's instructions.
Went for a test drive and brakes work just fine like never before, no pumping required anymore, no pulling on one side or another.

The only things is after a few stops around the block, I started earing like a draging noise from the rear brakes.
Brakes still work fine. First thought that I broke a return spring or something although, the only thing I did not adjusted yet is the parking brake, it's completely loose, could it be the source of my noise ? (before I start pulling everything apart again..)

Kaiser Forum / Right Engine block and Transmission color
« on: August 02, 2017, 04:55:06 PM »
Guys, I know this topic has been covered many times but my case is a bit of an enigma.

My 51 Kaiser has the engine block and transmission in light green color.
I've read that 51 are supposed to be darker green, nowhere I can see a bit of a darker green underneeth the light green or where the paint is gone.
 ???
Is there a possibility of lighter green powerplant in early 51's ?
Was it re-painted the wrong color later-on ? (in such a case, they must have had the powerplant assembly out to be able to provide this type of overall coverage)

Whatever the case, what color should I repaint it to respect originality ? What is the exact green color ?

Kaiser Forum / Side kick panels
« on: August 01, 2017, 07:09:02 PM »
Guys, both Side Kick Panels in the front are bad on my 51 K.

They are made of carboard which has absorbed humidity with time and are covered with black vinyl that does not stick anymore.

I would like to re-do them.

How were these made originally ? what material was used and what color were they ?

While waiting for the rad to be redone, already bought new hoses, belt and cap.

What would be the part number for the thermostat ? does it come with the gasket ?

Guys, I need an advice from experienced folks like you.

My radiator started leaking, I removed it and getting it repaired by a specialized shop.
Got new rad hoses too.

I was wondering if I should take the opportunity to change the thermostat as well.
The car war not overheating and there are no leaks from the thermostat housing.

It's just that everything I touch on the car, shows age and wear...so, what would you do ?
