Steering Wheel Knob
« on: February 11, 2017, 12:30:18 PM »
I found a nice vintage wheel steering knob at a local flea market.

Seems like it fits on my Kaiser steering wheel but where should it be placed on the wheel to be period correct ?

(never had one of those and Kaisers are older than me !)

Thanks

They were once deemed illegal in many states--not so anymore.

They will quickly cut an ugly groove in your steering wheel.  We called them "necker knobs" when I was in high school.  You could drive with one arm around your girl friends shoulder.  don't put it on a nice steering wheel!

If I remember correctly you can cut a piece of bicycle inner tube to fit inside the clamp and thus not mar the steering wheel. Necker
knobs were very popular in the fifty's before power steering was common. It allowed one hand steering witch took two hands in
those days. My '51 Kaiser was very hard to steer with a necker nob until I figured out the steering sector box needed lubrication
now and then. Ah the fun of driving in those days.
