Stay Safe.....
« on: September 12, 2018, 08:31:25 AM »
Some of you may actually get this on your phone, or WiFi in a hotel, as you are evacuating from the path of Florence, just wanted to say stay safe and we are thinking of you.  Cars and possessions can be replaced - people cannot.  I have family in the area but further away from the coast but not out of the rath.  They are preparing for wide spread outages and severe flooding.  May God be watching over you and protect you. "Flo, kiss my grits!" (reference to old Alice tv show)

I grew up in northwestern NJ (Morristown: the Military Capital of the Revolution) and recall the times we were impacted by the tail-end of hurricanes that ventured north & inland. We had flooding & loss of power, but nothing like compared to the coast & those in the direct path, so I understand the fear & frustration. Jack & I hope all emerge safe.

Small world indeed, my wife grew up in Denville NJ.

I have a son who just moved to the SC beach area..has moved inland, but it looks like the hurricane will linger over SC and cause severe flooding everywhere.  Prayers appreciated for him and all who will be affected...in SC and NC.

Years ago I was in the Kitty Hawk/Kill Devil Hills area to look at navy surplus boats, and while marveling at the elevated cottages on pilings at the beach, the locals told me at that time a hurricane had never hit there. Wonder if that still holds true?

That does not still hold true. They haven't had a direct hit there but they've had 2 or 3 that did quite a bit of damage. A couple years ago the main road in was pretty well wiped out. I live near Richmond, Virginia. The outer banks are by far the most popular vacation spot for people in this area. It's a very nice beach are that's not over commercialized/built up and still isn't ridiculously expensive.
