Kaiser Hydromatic transmissions

I've been a member of KFOCI since 1988. Some where I either was told or heard that the hydromatic trannys in the Kaisers from 51 thru 55 were a GM unit, & that they were the same as the Cadillac, Oldsmobile & Pontiac.  Now I'm wondering is or was that info correct & does any one know where it is printed that this is correcrt. Need a little help.  Thanks to all.

GM sold the old four speed Hydramatic to a lot of automakers including Kaiser and Frazer. The Hollander Interchange Manual shows a number of Hydramatics from other makes fitting Kaiser . Some models fit as an entire assembly while others can supply major or minor parts.

G.M.'s automatic Transmission is spelled Hydramatic.  Oldsmobile and Buick had a semi automatic transmission in 1938 but Hydramatic did not appear until 1940 in the Oldsmobile and Cadillac had it by 1941 and Pontiac in 1948.  Chevrolet had Powerglide in 1950 and  Buick had Dynaflow in 1948 and later.  When the Hydramatic plant burned down in 1953 Cadillac and Oldsmobile temporarily used Dynaflow transmissions while Pontiac used the Powerglide.  Several auto manufacturers used the Hydramatic including Lincoln and Kaiser.  Most of the units were inter-changeable and all had G.M. Hydramatic tags on them. Kaisers version was first used in the 1951 models and by 1952 they were improved by adding an extra gear called Dual Range Hydramatic which was used by Kaiser through 1955.  It was a good transmission in its day.

For all of spell experts out there the O instead of a A was a typographical error caused by me in to much of a hurry.  Next time I'll need to go back and proof read my text,
