I think that it looks that way because it is sitting on grass and probably sinks in a little.  Not a bad looking car for the money.  It has had four extra gauges installed and that sure looks like a 12V. battery.

I like the master disconnect switch.
Not 100% sure, but I think the "key" may be removable.

The firewall body tag indicates transmission put in the car was overdrive.  Problem is there is no indication of the overdrive relay on the firewall and (more important) the overdrive lever under the dash next to the hood release.

I noticed that too Jack.  The overdrive plug is dangling there by itself and not attached to anything.
