1953 K Interior Redo
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:30:42 AM »
Well, on the way to restore the interior on our 53 K 2Dr.  Dropped new upholstery, seats and dash board covering with a local upholstery shop.  Removing the dash covering was interesting.  Anyone have any hints on how to reinstalling it?  Replace padding or just add a little foam?  Any hints on replacing / removing the screws up next to the windshield?  Removing the head liner today.  photo, photo, photo, label, label, label.

The screws up against the windshield are fun. I have seen specialized tools that work, ie a small ratchet with a Phillips bit at right angles I had once. One can rig a substitute using a Phillips bit from a drill etc, clamping on a small vice grip at an angle, and pushing down while turning. If too stuck, should be able to blast some Deep creep or equivalent from below.

Padding tends to be dried and compressed after that long-replacing would restore the loft and feel, but be more difficult to get just right. Count on putting in some quality time on that job-very fussy.

Sears Craftsman has the small rachet with phillips and slotted driver ends.
