Size of overdrive fuse
« on: March 05, 2012, 10:26:03 AM »
Can anyone tell me what size fuse to use with the overdrive in my 53 Henry-J? I can't find the answer in the manual and the fuse that burned out looks like it was the original (can't read any of the letters or numbers). Thanks, Bob

Terry is correct. I've seen people state that it's a 30 amp but it is not. It is a 20 as Terry points out and you can see it listed as such in this diagram which is straight from the Henry J shop manual -

Thanks, I'm on my way to the store. When the overdrive stopped working on Saturday it really worried me until I found the fuse was blown. Thanks again, Bob

Sometimes those fuses just blow, sometimes something causes them to blow so I hope just replacing the fuse will correct it for you. More often than not, they just blow.

I guess old age affects everything. It's the same fuse that was in when I bought the car in 1987. The car had been parked in back of a carport (in the rain) sense 1961 when it was in a head-on collision. Thanks for the help.

Bob: How did the fuse replacement work for you? Yes, the rated fuse is 20 amps but I have found that the OD on these aged cars will blow 30 amp fuses. My suggestion is to buy a 30 amp circuit breaker (they make them to fit standard buss fuse holders).
