51 Kaiser Parts
« on: August 22, 2014, 06:22:03 AM »
Hey Everybody,

I have a 51 dragon and I am still looking for some parts preferably NOS. I need tail lights, clock, radio, glove box, and the chrome trim pieces on the front fenders that flow from the grille(check picture to see what I am talking about).

Thanks,
Nolan Brundige

P.S. That is not my car in the picture, lol.

There was an NOS radio on ebay for a long time. It bit pricey but you don't see them very often that's for sure.
Oh, I just found the old listing, seems it sold -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1951-1952-1953-Kaiser-Radio-Kit-NOS-New-In-Original-Box-Works-Great-See-Video-/311046452339?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item486bd03473&vxp=mtr

This one appears to be complete. I can repair it if need be
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1951-1953-KAISER-USED-WORKING-RADIO-with-GREAT-PLASTIC-PUSH-BUTTONS-COND-UNKNOWN-/121415037171?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c44e670f3&vxp=mtr

Now what do you mean by repairing it? Do you replace the plastic buttons or anything, or just get it into working condition?

Because if you fix them up, I already have a radio, I was just looking for one in better condition, see the attached picture (this is the radio in my car).

Thanks,
Nolan Brundige

I can get it working and replace the buttons but you need to get the buttons from Walker's Auto Pride I believe. I don't know what they cost but I replaced some for a fellow a few years ago - he bought them and sent them and the radio to me.
Due to the flimsy metal they are mounted on, it's just about impossible to get them to line up nice and straight as they did originally as the metal twists, stretches and bends when breaking the old ones off and pressing the new ones on. They were originally glued on and there's no other way to remove them. My opinion - buy the $75 radio that has the nice buttons and have it repaired. The buttons and labor to replace them will cost that much or more.

I think I might just send the one I have and purchase the new buttons. The guy on ebay wants $65 in shipping which is outrageous, when you can fit the radio in a $20 flat rate box. What would you think for cost to repair and place the buttons?

Thanks,

Those 'new' buttons look awesome.......... Fid, have you tried carefully heating the metal part with a small torch flame to loosen-up the glue holding old buttons on to aid in removal?
