Nice 52 Allstate picture on the Studebaker Drivers Club forum
« on: December 13, 2010, 09:47:13 AM »
It is a 52, and seems pretty basic, but it is a beauty.
If you are conversant with the SDC Forum, the thread is:
"Stove Huggers" the non-Studebaker Forum   Orphan of the Day, 12-12, 1952 Allstate

Someone noted that the licence light is installed upside down <g>. I would hazard a guess that this beautiful museum car--no backup lights (how rare are THOSE metal blanks???) Plain Jane, trunkless, likely a 4 cyl without overdrive, is best enjoyed stationary in a museum.

I did not see the picture, but it should be noted that the license plate bracket on the rear deck of HJ and Allstate cars was mounted ABOVE the light housing, so if properly installed, the light will show UP instead of down as you might expect.

The light is below the bracket and facing DOWN (to the top of the bumper) and the bracket is above. It was quite astute of a Studebaker-only guy to spot the error!

The link that Jim PEI did not provide:
http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/showthread.php?46900-Orphan-of-the-Day-12-12-1952-Allstate

I have seen pictures of this Allstate before. We had a picture of it in the Quarterly years ago. The fins over the headlights were the key.
Jim, you should be correcting those Stude guys about their notions of Allstates.

More nonsense about Allstates: At one time it was thought that all Allstates had trunks, but this is not true. There is this car, John Hewlett had one and I have one although both my car and John's were before car 380 while this one is 380 or after. At one time the Club knew of only 5 Allstates yet at a Regional meet, the people at a evening bull session either owned or could name the location of 18 of these cars. This was also the 1st Kaiser Meet our current Secretary attended.

That car is the one pictured in the August 1992 edition of Collectible Automobile. The first picture it looks green but if you look at the other photos, it appears to be sabre jet blue.  The front fender embellishments are the telltale that it is indeed the car from CA. That issue lists the owner as "National Auto Museum, Reno, Nevada."
