Stopped by Selby & Sons in Santa Rosa, CA yesterday and my 134 was being decked when I got there! Neat to see the progress and Everett Selby didn't even laugh too much when he was talking about a "spicier" cam he's gonna use in it!

The good news is that the block was virgin--my dad said it had been rebuilt at one point, but there's no evidence of that. So, a .030" bore was easy, a clean decking and new pistons, cam, valvetrain, etc. are gonna wake the little guy up.

I'm not used to spending money on 4-bangers (done a few warmed-up big V8s), but this one is special and can't wait to get it back.

Does anyone know if I can get the stock green engine paint in a rattle can?

Was the 4 cyl. painted the same as the 161 F-head?

I don't know about the F head but the 4 was the same green as the 161 CID 6 cyl L head.

Fid, do you know where to find that shade of green in a rattlecan?

The dark green used on KF engines is not commercially available - either in can or spray. The mix contains aluminum oxide and that's what makes it unique. I found an industrial paint that's a near match, however, it's a tad over $200 a gallon, the smallest size available.

That's a good start, Jake! Shoot, my J was hosed down in Earl Scheib red in 1962, right over the original Cerulean Blue, so I guess a close match will fit the bill...

KFOCI member Gary Micanek used to mix the engine paint for our cars. He lives in Saint Louis, Mo.

Gary Michanek still mixes/sells the paint but not in spray cans.  I used Oliver Tractor paint on my '53 Henry J. Not a perfect match by any means but a medium machine type color close to the "Lawn Green" Martin Senour used to offer.


Decide for yourself if you think it will work.

Very nice!   What was the official name of the green paint for the 4 and the 6?

You do not need to "shoot" the paint that Gary makes.

Merely brush it on, it flows very smoothly.

It has "sparkle" which is correct for the Darrin..I do not know about the other models.
